![]() Over centuries, Russia has experienced attacks from the Teutonic Knights, Napoleon, and Nazi Germany, and, since the end of the Cold War, encroachment from the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). ![]() The world is grappling with an “infodemic” as well as a pandemic, and both require a whole-of-society approach to be successfully addressed. As Russia targets issues of public health in this way, there will be tremendous implications for American citizens and the U.S. 2 From Russia’s interference in the 2016 Presidential election to spreading hoaxes during the 2020 global pandemic, Russia is exploiting America’s divisions with disinformation to amplify discord in the United States and undermine its institutions. democratic society and defame America’s reputation on the world stage. One strategic goal of Russia’s influence operations is to weaken the United States and its allies, which Russia views as operating too close to its sphere of influence, what it refers to as its “near abroad.” 1 Time and again, Russia has used familiar influence tactics to spread disinformation in an attempt to weaken U.S. adversaries, including Russia, they are potential weaknesses to exploit. These characteristics, its founding principles, are also its strengths as a nation. The United States is diverse, pluralistic, and democratic. While Russian weaponization of information is not new the intersection of Russian disinformation, public health crises, and vulnerability to bioevents presents new and troubling homeland and national security threats for the United States. Social media has provided a unique tool kit to manipulate narratives and amplify societal divisions in an effort to weaken the United States in ways previously unimaginable. But without equivalent conventional military might, Russia has turned to other asymmetric advantages to compensate in its competition with the United States. Since the nadir of Soviet dissolution, Russia has fought to rebalance power and contemporaneously reduce American influence. ![]() Given its history and a geographic location with many bordering nations, it sees itself as constantly besieged from all sides, but particularly by the West. Russia has a long history of seeking to project power and influence while playing with a technological and geopolitical handicap. Russia used tactics of influence and coercion long before social media allowed for nearly ubiquitous access to its targets and a prolific capability for controlling a narrative and manipulating the hearts and minds of a population on a range of sensitive societal issues, including public health. The blurred red lines that result from covert i nformation operations waged by foreign actors on the Internet will force a change in how the United States operates and how its society consumes information. America’s competitors are regularly operating below the threshold that would warrant a military response, including on the information battlefield. I n a renewed era of Great Power competition, the United States is faced with adversaries engaging across multiple domains without the traditional distinctions of war and peace.

While these are the universal standard rates and widely accepted, Tim had his two cents on the topic. Tim Sweeney had questioned the need for digital storefronts 30% revenue cut as early as 2017. Epic Games has showcased its genius by picking up its best-selling game for the trial to force a response from the tech giant. However, it has allowed Epic to keep its developed accounts for maintenance purposes. Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers has bluntly denied Epic Games’ request to host Fornite on iOS pending trials. The case may take months of trials to conclude, but the US trials are showing some progress. The company prepped itself with a 60-page lawsuit and a video that parodies the classic “ 1984” commercial. In an interview with CNN Business, Sweeney mentioned that they took nearly seven months to plan the course of action under the codename “ Project Liberty.” What Sweeney calls the biggest bet of his career as a digital revolution if Epic Games wins the case. The fight has a global impact with Epic Games lodging cases in the US, Australia, UK, and now European courts. This kickstarted what came to be known as the #freefortnite campaign and a legal battle across the maestros. This ban prevented 116 million of its 360 million player base from accessing updates to the game. So it decided to take advantage of its monopoly and bully Fornite out of the App Store. This discount was not available if the purchase was made via storefronts. The company offered V-bucks, the in-game currency, at a 20% reduced price if the customers purchased it directly from Epic. Mrs Friedländer concluded her speech by calling on people to be “vigilant, and not look away as we did then. On a day like today, we must stand together so that the memory of the Holocaust remains true and is not abused by anyone.” The so-called "Jewish Star", she said, is “shamelessly used today by new enemies of democracy to style themselves in public – and in the middle of a democracy! - as victims. She warned that today the memory of the Holocaust is “politically abused, sometimes even ridiculed and trampled on”. What happened, happened - we can no longer change it. There is no Christian blood, no Jewish blood, no Muslim blood, there is only human blood. “You cannot love all people, but everyone deserves to be respected. “Be human! People did what they did because they did not recognise people as people,” she said. Mrs Friedländer explained how, after moving back to Berlin from New York at the age of 88, she now travels around Germany to meet pupils, whom she asks to become witnesses to the horrors of the Holocaust as she and her fellow survivors will not be able to for much longer. In her speech, 100-year old Holocaust survivor Margot Friedländer spoke about how her mother and brother were killed in Auschwitz, and how she herself was caught and deported to the concentration camp of Theresienstadt, where she witnessed indescribable suffering but survived. Strip and reprobe only chemiluminescent and fluorescent western blotsĬolorimetric/chromogenic detection reagents leave a permanent visible stain on the membrane that will not be removed by stripping procedures. PVDF is less brittle and fragile than nitrocellulose, making it more useful when requiring multiple rounds of reprocessing (stripping and reprobing procedures). PVDF membranes have a protein binding capacity of 170–200 µg/cm 2 and offer better retention of adsorbed proteins than other supports because of the greater hydrophobicity. By stripping the membrane, the blot can be reused. Immunoblotting requires many steps, providing ample opportunity for mistakes to occur. When immunoblot results are not as expected, reprobing allows the use of the same protein sample without going back to gel electrophoresis. ![]() Optimization is achieved easily by stripping the membrane and reprobing with a different antibody concentration. It is time-consuming to run an SDS-polyacrylamide gel and then transfer the proteins to a membrane. Low sodium is common and typically diagnosed with lab testing, so be sure your surgeon is aware if you are found to have low sodium. Low sodium: Sodium can be lost via diarrhea and should be replaced with electrolyte-containing fluids such as Gatorade or Pedialyte.Avoid caffeine, fruit juices, and drinks that add to gas in the stomach (carbonated beverages and those used with straws). Dark urine indicates an increased need for fluid, while clear and nearly colorless urine indicates adequate hydration. Dehydration can be best judged at home by the color of urine. Dehydration: Frequent bowel movements can lead to dehydration.Dense and starchy foods, such as potatoes and pasta, can help firm the stool. Diarrhea is typically improved with medication such as Lomotil or Imodium along with dietary changes. This is a typical outcome of the procedure and may not resolve after the recovery is complete, but you can try to avoid foods known to cause gas. Foods that normally cause gas may cause worse flatulence after J-pouch surgery. But don't skip meals, which can lead to loose and irritating stools. Small meals: Some people with J-pouches find they can only tolerate multiple small meals rather than three large meals per day.Pregnancy: The pressure of the fetus in the pelvis, where the J-pouch rests, can cause difficulty with bowel movements and continence. Both the colon-rectal surgeon and the obstetrician will play a role in helping the pregnant mother to have the best possible control during the first trimester when this problem is the most significant, and determining the best type of delivery.Need for ostomy: In serious cases where incontinence becomes an ongoing issue, the J-pouch isn’t healthy or non-functioning, or the patient is unsatisfied, an ileostomy is the treatment of choice. This could lead to a J-pouch that has ulcerative lesions. Crohn’s after J-pouch: Crohn’s disease can happen anywhere in the digestive tract while colitis is limited to the large intestine. If Crohn’s lesions only appear in the colon prior to surgery, it could logically be diagnosed as colitis, only to find that the lesions are later found in other locations.Sexual dysfunction: Erectile dysfunction is a known risk of the procedure for men. For women, infertility due to scarring around the ovaries is a known potential complication, as is painful intercourse.Pelvic abscess: This is a pocket of infection that develops in or near the J-pouch site and requires medical and potentially surgical treatment.Diarrhea: Technically speaking, diarrhea is six or more loose stools per day, and for some, that level of loose stools is better than their previous level of control. For others, this is worse than previous, but during the initial few weeks of recovery, diarrhea is common and expected.Incontinence: While the purpose of the J-pouch is to help the patient be in control of when they move their bowels, some patients experience incontinence during their recovery. Few experience incontinence that lingers past the recovery phase.Pouchitis: An inflammation of the pouch, this condition can be painful and is typically treated with two medications: Flagyl and Cipro. This can be prevented with a barrier ointment on the skin. Without the colon to perform this function, some patients experience burning at the site of their stoma or around the anus that is commonly referred to as “butt burn”. Skin erosion: One function of the colon is to absorb excess acid from the intestinal tract. This narrowing can result in small bowel obstruction, difficulty with food or stool moving through the digestive tract and difficulty with bowel movements. Stricture: Areas of surgical incisions, including the small intestine, J-pouch, and anus can experience a narrowing due to scarring.Over time, patients who were malnourished before surgery often become better nourished once diarrhea subsides. Decreased nutrition: Frequent diarrhea can lead to fewer vitamins, minerals, and calories being absorbed by the body.
